How ranking works

One rule, applied the same way on every page.

Normal results

Firms are ordered by how well they fit what you're looking for, then by verified reviews and rating. Fit means:

  • The situations they specialise in, such as MTD, landlords or sole traders
  • The services you need
  • Whether they serve your town or work remotely
  • Whether your business meets any minimum size they've set
  • Whether they're taking on new clients

The matching quiz

The quiz only suggests firms that have claimed their listing and say they're taking on clients. Then:

  • The firm must be in your town, or work online if you're happy with that.
  • Your turnover must meet any minimum the firm has set.
  • Each matching situation (MTD, landlords, sole traders) scores 3 points, each matching service 2, and being in your town 2.
  • Ties go to the more complete listing, then alphabetical order.

You see up to three firms and why each one matched. You don't need to give an email to see them.

Featured placements

Firms will be able to pay for a placement in a block clearly labelled "Featured". Paying never changes a firm's position in the normal results, its rating, or which reviews are shown. It never affects our matching quiz either.

What nobody can pay for

  • Removing or hiding a review
  • A higher rating
  • A higher position in the normal results or the quiz
  • Access to your enquiry. Enquiries always go to the firms you choose, free.
